Journalist, captured by Al Quaeda in 2012, believes Mueller used him as bait and made no attempts to rescue him, even as they assured his mother they were doing all they could. While in captivity, they raided his bank accounts. Fortunately, he escaped on his own and lives to tell the story, for now, at least.

An American photo journalist named Matt Schrier was kidnapped and held by Al Qaeda for seven months in six different prison locations. He was tortured and starved before eventually escaping. He’s now alleging that the FBI not only didn’t do everything they could to gain his release, they were using him as bait, allowing the terrorists to have access to his bank accounts and to continue his captivity in order to gain intelligence information. That might even have been okay as an ongoing component of the investigation if he had been reimbursed for his losses. He wasn’t and in fact was sent a bill for the airfare home to the US.
